Cleaning is a continuous issue in tire industry. In the meantime, the cleaning applications have grown and cover different applications. Today, lasers are used to clean tire molds in the classic way as well as to clean tires themselves.

Applications

The more recent application – cleaning of tires – serves a growing market of tire industry. More and more often tire manufacturers use the option to refine their standard tires from stock in a process downstream of vulcanization. Here for example foam for acoustic insulation or additional compounds that serve to seal a hole in the case of penetration by a foreign body from the outside are brought in.

The application presumes that such material sticks well to the tire. But adhesion to the surface within the tire is usually not sufficient due to contamination by process additives. By means of fully automated laser systems 4JET offers efficient laser cleaning without environmental impact. 4JET laser cleaning systems have already proven in many cases in industrial application.

Typically, tire molds have already been cleaned by means of 4JET laser technology for decades. Today, the mold cleaning by laser provides highest efficiency referring to quality as well as to cost.

  • Cleaning without additional cleaning media
    For laser cleaning electrical power is consumed. It is needed to generate laser radiation. Other cleaning media on a chemical basis or grit are eliminated during the cleaning process.
