4JET Takes Action Against Patent Infringer at glasstec
District Court of Düsseldorf prohibits Shenzhen Jixiangyun Technology (Cloud Laser) from offering and selling patent-infringing glass cutting systems in Germany.
Alsdorf / Düsseldorf, October 22, 2026 – 4JET GmbH, a manufacturer of industrial laser systems for the glass, semiconductor, and tire industries, has obtained a preliminary injunction against Shenzhen Jixiangyun Technology Co., Ltd. (brand name: Cloud Laser) during the world-leading trade fair glasstec. The District Court of Düsseldorf has prohibited the company from offering, marketing, or using laser systems for glass separation in Germany that infringe European Patent EP 2 754 524 B1. The injunction was served to the exhibitor directly at its booth in Hall 11.
Foundational Patent for Laser Cutting of Transparent Materials
Patent EP 2 754 524 B1, which is the subject of the injunction, inter alia protects a device that shapes a laser beam into a focal line extended along the beam propagation direction, creating a continuous crack within the glass that reaches the surface. The process enables the separation of glass and wafers without particle generation, melt edges, or material loss and is now an industry-standard technology for cutting thin glass, display glass, and wafers.
The patent application was filed in 2013 and granted in 2015. Following the acquisition of Corning Laser Technologies, the entire intellectual property portfolio was transferred to 4JET. The validity of the patent has been thoroughly tested: an opposition was fully rejected by the European Patent Office in 2018, and a subsequent appeal was withdrawn in 2020 following a preliminary opinion from the Board of Appeal. The patent remains in force until January 2033.
Injunction Obtained During the Trade Show
At the beginning of the trade fair, 4JET found out that Cloud Laser was offering glass cutting systems at its booth that, according to the assessment of 4JET and its attorneys, implement all features of the patent claim. A cease-and-desist letter remained unanswered. As a result, 4JET, represented by the law firm rospatt (Dr. Markus Lenßen), filed a motion for a preliminary injunction with the District Court of Düsseldorf.
The court granted the motion by order dated 21.10.2026, (Case No. 4b O 76/26) and stipulated administrative fines of up to €250,000 for each violation. In addition, an attachment order was issued against the company's assets to secure procedural costs.
By means of the preliminary injunction, the court grants 4JET provisional legal protection, against which Cloud Laser may, inter alia, lodge an objection. Regardless of this, however, Cloud Laser must comply with the preliminary injunction immediately.
“Anyone Using Our Technology Needs a License”
“4JET has invested considerable resources in building a comprehensive patent portfolio for laser processing of glass, consisting not only of the patent infringed in this case but also approximately 40 additional international patent families,” said Jörg Jetter, Founder and CEO of 4JET.
“The injunction against Cloud Laser is not an isolated case; it is only the beginning. We are systematically monitoring the market and will enforce our intellectual property rights not only in Germany but everywhere where our IP rights are in force. Where appropriate, we will also take action against the commercialization of finished glass products manufactured using infringing technology, for example in China, and subsequently sold in Europe or North America.”
At the same time, 4JET emphasizes that its technology is available to third parties under license.
“We have already concluded a number of licensing agreements and assess licensing inquiries in a pragmatic manner,” Jetter added.
